Deanna Paul is a Partner at Geragos & Geragos and an experienced trial lawyer whose practice spans criminal defense, government investigations, complex civil litigation, and appeals.

She regularly represents individuals and companies in high-stakes criminal and regulatory matters involving securities and wire fraud, money laundering, and insider trading. Deanna also maintains a broad civil practice spanning defamation, discrimination, and employment disputes, and advises clients and journalists on First Amendment and emerging issues in media law. Clients often turn to Deanna to bring a creative lens to a difficult set of facts and to navigate litigation with sensitive reputational or media dimensions. Her clients range from technology companies, sports organizations, and nonprofits to executives, attorneys, journalists and public figures.

Deanna began her career as an assistant district attorney in New York City, prosecuting child homicides, felony sex crimes, and cases of domestic violence. She has tried more than two dozen cases to verdict in federal and state court. Before joining private practice, Deanna was a legal affairs correspondent for the Wall Street Journal and a national and breaking news reporter for the Washington Post. She is the recipient of multiple journalism honors and was part of The Post team that was a finalist for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize in Explanatory Reporting.

Deanna received her A.B. from University of Pennsylvania, her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, and her M.A. from Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, where she is currently an adjunct professor of media law.
