Karen Friedman Agnifilo joined Geragos & Geragos after a three decade career in Criminal Justice. Ms. Friedman Agnifilo previously served as the number two Executive for the Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, Jr., where she served as his Chief Assistant DA supervising a staff and caseloads of approximately 500 attorneys. In addition to managing staff, cases and a $100 million plus budget she was also the principal policy advisor to the DA.
During her time as Chief Assistant, Ms. Friedman Agnifilo helped redefine the role of a prosecutor’s office in modernizing and reforming the criminal justice system, and reducing unnecessary incarceration. During her tenure, the office ended the prosecution of several crimes of poverty, expanded diversion opportunities in Criminal and Supreme Court, introduced implicit bias analysis and training, and focused on alternatives to incarceration, collateral consequences, and reentry. At the same time, she helped establish the Criminal Justice Investment Initiative which invested over $250 million of asset forfeiture money in youth, families, and communities, as well as the national Sexual Assault Kit Backlog Elimination Grant Program where she spearheaded the initiative to end the nation-wide rape kit backlog.
Ms. Friedman Agnifilo is a seasoned investigator and trial attorney who has experience in all areas of complex and violent crime including homicides, sexual assault, violent gangs, human trafficking, and child abuse to name a few. Ms. Friedman Agnifilo has extensive experience with the media and is a frequent commentator in the press. Ms. Friedman Agnifilo rejoined the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office in 2010 as Executive ADA and Chief of the Trial Division, leaving her position as General Counsel to the New York City Mayor’s Office’s Criminal Justice Coordinator. Ms. Friedman Agnifilo is a 1988 graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, and a 1992 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center. She is conversational in Spanish.
